New Life In Christ

How Do I Find New Life in Christ?

God can be known personally. He has made a way for us to have an intimate relationship–even a friendship–with Him. The following are some of the things we must do in order to become Christians (true believers).

We need to make a U-turn in our lives. In other words, we need to repent. Don’t be put off by this word, it simply means to acknowledge the truth and “change directions.” It means to turn our backs on any way of life that has kept us from the Lord and choose, instead, to walk towards Him. (John 3:16)

Then, we must believe and receive. (Believe simply means putting our complete trust and faith in Christ and becoming “doers of His Word, not hearers only.” Receive means having Jesus Christ actually come into our hearts and receiving His Spirit by faith.) (James 1:23; John 1:12; Revelation 3:20)

If you’re not sure how to pray and ask for this intimate relationship, here’s a suggestion:
Dearest Heavenly Father: I want to personally know You. I want to become a member of Your family and know for sure that I am Your child. I want my name to be recorded in Your Book of Life. So right now, I accept Your invitation to claim You as my Father and Your home as my own, by confessing (acknowledging) to You that I am a sinner and that I have fallen short of what You desire for my life.

I am sorry for my sin and I ask Your forgiveness for all the ways I have offended You and for all the times I have chosen to follow my own will over Yours. I want You to know that I am willing to turn around from these things and follow You. But, Lord, I need Your help. Please wash me, cleanse me and give me a new beginning.

I believe that Jesus Christ died on the Cross to take away my personal sin and I believe that He rose from the grave in order to give me eternal Life. Right now, I open my heart and I invite Jesus to come in and from this moment forward to take full control of my life. I now place myself in Your hands. Change me, Lord, from the inside out. Fill me with Your Holy Spirit and enable me to be “a doer of Your Word, not a hearer only.”

Thank you for Your faithfulness. I trust that I am now Yours. In Your Name I pray. Amen.

What Do I Do Next?

The best place to learn how to walk and grow in the Lord is to fellowship at a local church. Talk to friends who know the Lord personally and get some suggestions as to which church might be best for you. Also crucial to your walk, is reading the Bible every day. Get a translation that’s understandable and easy to read. A third action that’s also important to growing as a Christian, is prayer. Your prayers don’t have to be eloquent or long, but simply and honestly from your heart. Prayer is communicating with the Lord how you feel and what you want and, then, listening for His answers and His will.

May God bless you as you begin your new life in the Lord.
